Free NHS flu jab in Southport
If you’re eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination, you can get it here — no GP appointment needed. The jab is your best protection against flu through the winter, and it takes minutes.
How would you like to be seen?
Walk in any time we’re open, or book ahead so there’s no waiting when you arrive.
Who can get a free NHS flu jab?
The NHS offers a free flu vaccination each autumn to people most at risk of becoming seriously ill from flu. You’re usually eligible if you:
Eligible groups
- Are aged 65 or over
- Are pregnant
- Have a long-term health condition (such as diabetes, asthma, heart, kidney, or liver disease)
- Have a weakened immune system
- Are a carer, or live with someone who is immunocompromised
- Receive a carer’s allowance
Why it matters
Flu is far more serious than a heavy cold for people in at-risk groups — it can lead to pneumonia and hospital stays. The vaccine is updated every year to match the strains expected that winter, so last year’s jab won’t protect you this year.
What to expect
- The whole visit takes about 10 minutes.
- The injection goes into your upper arm and is over in seconds.
- You can walk in or book — both are free if you’re eligible.
- Most people feel fine straight away; some have a mildly sore arm for a day.
Not eligible for a free jab?
If you don’t fall into an NHS-eligible group, you can still protect yourself with our private flu vaccination from £15–20.
- Difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a fast heartbeat — call 999 (very rare allergic reaction)
- A high fever that doesn’t settle
If in doubt, call 111 or go to your nearest A&E. Always call 999 in an emergency.
Common questions
When should I get it?
Ideally in autumn, before flu starts circulating — but it’s worth having any time during the season.
Can I have it with my COVID booster?
Often yes. Ask us and we’ll advise based on the current NHS guidance.
Will it give me flu?
No. The adult flu vaccine does not contain live virus and cannot give you flu.
