Since December 2023, your pharmacist can start you on the contraceptive pill or continue your existing prescription — all in our private consultation room, free on the NHS, with no GP appointment.

What this service covers
Our pharmacist can supply the combined pill or the progestogen-only (“mini”) pill under the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service. We can start you on a new pill after a confidential consultation, or continue a pill you’re already taking — so you don’t have to chase a GP appointment every time your supply runs low.
How the consultation works
- We’ll have a private, confidential chat in our consultation room — no waiting-room questions.
- We check a few things: your blood pressure, weight, and a short health and medication history.
- We talk through the options and help you choose the pill that suits you.
- If it’s right for you, we supply it the same day.
- We’ll arrange a simple follow-up and tell you when to come back.
Is it right for me?
The pill suits many people but not everyone. Some health conditions, medicines, or a history of blood clots or migraines can make one type unsuitable — which is exactly what the consultation checks. If the pill isn’t right for you, we’ll explain why and point you to other options.
Your privacy
Everything you tell us is confidential and follows the same rules as your GP. The consultation happens in a private room with the door closed — not over the counter.

Do I need an appointment?
No. You can walk in, though booking means a private slot with no wait.
Is there an age limit?
There’s no upper age limit, but suitability is always assessed individually during the consultation.
Can you continue a pill my GP started?
Yes — we can continue most existing pill prescriptions after a quick check.
